Sign this protest against the EU report by SCENIHR*

"The safety of dental amalgam and alternative dental restoration materials for patients and users".

(According to the report, mercury in the teeth does not pose any risk to human health).

We, a group of people that are or have been harmed by mercury / amalgam or have relatives that are, state the following arguments:

  1. According to our experience, the public health services in the EU countries do not have adequate knowledge of how to diagnose or treat health problems caused by mercury / amalgam.
  2. According to information on the Internet and the curriculum vitae of the members of the SCENIHR group, none of the members have medical knowledge of health problems caused by amalgam nor do they treat patients that suffer due to amalgam.
  3. The EU report is based on the wrong hypothesis, that the amounts of mercury in the blood or in the urine are correlated to the symptoms of the patient / the exposure of mercury. There is no such correlation.
  4. When results of a scientific study do not show a correlation between f. ex. exposure and symptoms, it cannot be concluded that such a correlation does not exist, but only that the actual trial could not show it. To conclude based on lack of correlation is against scientific practice and shows that the authors of the report base their conclusions on assumptions instead of scientific data. Assumptions are not acceptable in a report which pretends to be scientific.
  5. The EU report is based on a biased selection of references.

Our general conclusion of this EU report is that it is biased towards the views of conservative dentists and the interests of the dental industry, whereas the interests of both the public and the suffering patients are neglected. Therefore, the report is not credible.

Therefore, we ask that the EU report be withdrawn and that a new expert group consisting of both competent and impartial experts rewrite it.

We protest against the content and the conclusions in this EU report.
